ABOUT RHENS

A Meeting of History, Culture, and Nature

RHENS is located on the western bank of the Rhine, in the romantic Upper Middle Rhine Valley, just 7 km from Koblenz, and has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage “Upper Middle Rhine Valley” since 2002.

In the 14th century, the town was the central conference venue for the electors of the Rhine region to elect Charles IV as
Roman-German King. The great French writer Victor Hugo also dedicated a good five pages to this historical meeting place, including the following: "The Rhine is the river that everyone talks about, yet no one explores, that everyone visits but no one knows, that one notices in passing but quickly forgets, that everyone’s gaze touches, yet no one mentally penetrates."

Experience the charm of the past in the old town of Rhens with its half-timbered houses and the Old Town Hall, surrounded by an almost completely preserved city wall. There are two gates leading to the Rhine and the 2.5 kilometers of Rhine promenades, which, alongside the city wall, form a natural boundary while also representing an open, cultural connection to the modern world for centuries.

A place created for the meeting of different cultures and artistic ideas, and for a dialogue on peace in the heart of Europe.
